Koenzim Q-10 (CoQ-10)


Koenzim Q-10 je otkriven prije nešto više od 50 godina (1957), poznat je još pod nazivom ubikvinon, važan je dio mehanizma proizvodnje energije u organizmu. Ime mu dolazi od riječi ubiquitous koja znači sveprisutan. Kako mu i sama riječ govori, doista ga možemo naći u svakoj stanici organizma. Prilično bitnu ulogu ima u mitohondrijima kao dio stanične proizvodnje energije iz glukoze i masnih kiselina. CoQ10 je kofaktor tri važna enzimska sustava koji zajedno proizvode oko 90 posto ukupne energije u stanicama. Snažan je antioksidans. Njegova prisutnost kao antioksidansa u mitohondrijima je od velikog značaja jer se pri proizvodnji energije koja nas pokreće stvaraju slobodni radikali koji oštečuju stanice.
Budući da CoQ10 tijelo koristi kako bi pretvorio hranu u adenozin trifosfat (ATP), osnovnu energetsku jedinicu koja nas pokreće, jasno je kako može naći praktičnu primjenu kao dodatak prehrani sportašima u postizanju boljih rezultata i bržeg oporavka od treninga.

Nove studije obljavljene prošle godine proširuju spoznaje djelovanja koenzima Q-10. Dvostruka studija s placebo skupinom provedena je na 18 vrhunskih sportaša tijekom 20 dana intenzivnog svakodnevnog treninga, dužeg od 5 sati. Mjereni su različiti markeri u krvi koji pokazuju umor mišića i oksidativni stres prije, za vrijeme i nakon navedenog perioda. Obje skupine imale su povišene razine mioglobina i kreatin kinaze, proteina koji ukazuju na oštećenje mišića, no ono je u skupini koja je uzimala 300mg koenzim Q-10-a dnevno bila značajno manja. Razina lipid peroksida, indikatora osidativnog stresa, također je bila manja u skupini koja je uzimala koenzim koenzim Q-10. Tijekom 2008 godine objavljene su još dvije studije čiji rezultati potvrđuju do tada objavljeno.
